Literacy Tutors Needed; Free Training Provided
The Champaign County Literacy Council needs additional volunteer tutors to help adult students improve their reading and math skills, and is offering free tutor training.
The poor economy and rising unemployment have led to increased demand for services. Training will be offered on two consecutive Saturdays, January 23 and 30, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Adult Basic Education building on the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center campus, 2280 St. Rt. 540, Bellefontaine.
The sessions feature hands-on training exercises to practice proven techniques that help adults with low literacy skills improve their ability to read and write.
The Champaign County Literacy Council (CCLC), a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, is a United Way agency. CCLC partners with the Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) program of Ohio Hi-Point, the Champaign Technology and Employment Center and the Madison-Champaign Counties Educational Service Center, helping adults improve skills necessary for success in the workforce, at home and in the community.
Additional Literacy Council tutors are needed to provide individual support to students with low literacy skills in ABLE’s GED program. Tutors also are needed for other adult learners in the county.
For more information or to register for tutor training, please call the Literacy Council at 484-1523.
