Taste of Champaign to Support Caring Kitchen

A Taste of Champaign County is an event that promises to be filling and fulfilling—a feast for the eyes, palate and soul.

A portion of the proceeds will help the Caring Kitchen of Urbana meet an increasing call to feed and shelter homeless families. At the same time, the November 7 event offers guests an opportunity to sample and appreciate the specialties of 25 local restaurants and caterers as well as appreciate the creations of up to 20 local artists. Some of the artwork will be for sale.

A Taste of Champaign County will be held noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, November 7 at the Urbana Conference Center, 1778 W. State Route 29, Urbana.  Admission is free. For a donation ($10 for adults and $5 for children under 12) guests may sample food prepared by local vendors. The vendors are donating their food for the event. Free children’s activities also will be provided.

Remko Bloemhard of the Urbana Conference Center planned A Taste of Champaign County, in cooperation with the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, to support the Caring Kitchen and promote local businesses and artists.

“Caring Kitchen is busier this year because of the economy, and we see this event as one way to help boost our local economy and promote local business,” Bloemhard said. “By showcasing the talent of our local artists and the delicious food prepared by our local restaurants and caterers, we want to encourage people to keep more of their money in the community.”

Artists at A Taste of Champaign County will include painters, sculptors, photographers and ceramists.
