Pricey Insurance??

Fri Jul 31, 2009 02:53PM

Is it just me or has anyone else thought that insurance wouldn't be so pricey if Doctors and hospitals did not charge (in many cases over charge) the insurance companies. Really take a look at your next doctor/hospital bill and see what they are charging your insurance company. They will often "settle" for less money from the insurance company because it is disallowed. That tells me they did not need to charge that much in the first place. ~ Just a thought. And before anyone asked no I do not work for any insurance companies. I just wonder why it is the insurance companies and Tax payers are flipping the bill for this insurance plan and the third party in this seems to be doing nothing to help?? As I said just a question to think on. :)

My hospital billed my insurance company $183,000 for my triple heart bypass. Blue Cross/Blue Shield pad $78.000 to pay in full. My portion was zero. Why couldn't they just bill for $78,000 if that's what they would settle for and be done with it ?

Neither the current or proposed plans solve anything

Procedure : United States India Thailand Singapore
Coronary Angioplasy $31,000-70,000 $11,000 $13,000 $13,000
Heart Bypass $66,000-150,000 $10,000 $12,000 $20,000
Hip Replacement $22,000-53,000 $9,000 $ 12,000 $12,000
Gastric Bypass $33,000-58,000 $11,000 $13,000 $ 13,000

Tort Law and government mandates drive the unreasonable health care costs here).
